How to Become a Better Photographer 📸
UNDERSTAND THE BASICS - When I first started, I refused to take any portraits unless I understood how my camera works, lighting, what every setting does and how they affect my shot. Mostly because I didn’t want to embarrass myself but understanding the basics has allowed me to shoot in every single situation and lighting condition, and still get beautiful portraits. You won’t believe how many “professional photographers” I see charging for wedding services but posting questions in Facebook groups, asking why their wedding photos came out blurry and looking at their settings they shot everything with shutter speed at 1/30. I’m sorry but if you don’t understand the basics of your camera and you can’t adjust your settings or know what’s settings you should be at without thinking, you shouldn’t be charging $4000 for a wedding and you don’t know what you’re doing. 📝
PRACTICE - Practice makes perfect. Practice shooting in harsh sunlight, practice shooting with overcast, then edit those photos and understand how those different lighting situations affect the edit. Practice always! When I wanted to test new things I learnt, I would ask my family or friends to help me. I never practiced on a wedding I was being booked for at $4000 dollars. Learn new things, grab a friend and practice! 📚
CRITIQUE YOURSELF - To this day, I still critique my work. I try to understand what I really like about a shoot, what I didn’t like, what I should’ve done differently, etc. I’m always trying to be better and improve from my last shoot. 🚀
