Updater and changes as well as behaviour
understanding the fact there is more than one way to update a Linux Distribution being
terminal commands or the other software updater and some that I will not mention in this video
I will focus on the two user friendly software up dater’s that send the user messages indicating
an update is available in Linux I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS your Distribution could very or be totally different
wen I seen and was notified of an update for my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I was curious from so many
different perspectives as to the difference if any of the two up dater’s the latest being threw the Ubuntu software center utilizing Gnome
looking first at the updater most would be familiar with depending upon how you update your system everything appears to be in order
take note of two things here in this software updater one being the choices I can make and two
the terminology as I choose remind me later to see how the other Linux Ubuntu updater performs
notice the change in language and the lack of choices within this Linux Updater compared to the
other not saying this is a bad thing being new I am sure the Software Updater via Gnome builder
Ubuntu software center is still being built to what it will become
so lets install these updates and we will check the other updater to see cause and effect in other words
were they the same updates will my other updater state all software is up to date
once I received the all clear check mark from the new Ubuntu software center updater I ran the other
updater which as you can see gave me the all clear in my Linux Ubuntu 16.04 distribution
I decided to wait until the next available update to run the reveres action to see cause and effect
by this I mean ignoring the Ubuntu software center and using the older software updater prior to 16.04
sure enough the next update was in and immediately I opened the Ubuntu Software center and went to the update to look over first noting there were three available
in all my excitement I forgot to show the OS updates for comparative language value I did find the
two other updates quit interesting comparatively
as I proceeded on to use the older updater noticing for what ever reason there were two items greyed
out in this Linux software updater
but as looking for cause and effect I moved on to the install this update and while using this Linux
updater my favourite part is details as it shows the load bar for each item and tells you if something failed
then within the details the updater shows you what it is doing on the command line so cool
and in my mind bringing anyone who views this closer to knowing and understanding there system using this Linux Updater
these details also show wen something did not install or indicates a problem giving some place to
start if an issue did occur although since I have been using LTS I have had only minor hiccups but to
others could have seemed tragic
this Linux software updater has given the all clear let us move on to the Ubuntu software center Updater and see what it says as you can see there is still one update
so I quickly restarted my system to see if it would clear it but it did not I decided to go ahead with the install being I noticed grayed out areas on the other Linux software installer
so is this just a user friendly move or are they trying to eliminate the older software updater or is the
new Ubuntu software updater merely scanning and saying owe you have that update
