How To Get A Clear Mix / Fix A Muddy Mix
Are you struggling with how to get a clear mix? What even is a clear mix? How do you fix a muddy mix? In this video I show you a simple formula to apply with plenty of examples to solve these mixing problems.
The basic premise revolves around 3 main mixing concepts; volume, space, and frequency. If you can manage and balance these 3 elements you'll be on your way to a perfectly clear and clean mix. Space refers to not just panning, but also depth caused by timing effects. Frequency refers to both instrument ranges and the EQ you apply to each track. Volume is of course just relative volume between tracks.
Fixing a muddy mix typically involves looking at your tracks and finding overlapping spaces and frequencies, and then separating these tracks in space and frequency.
