Tibetan Journey - February March 2012
A journey from Chendu, in Trindu County, to Dege via Yushu, Tenko, Dzogchen and Maniganngo, over the old Tea & Horse trade route, on a Chinese motorbike. Just over 500 klm traveled through rugged mountains, snow and ice in Qinghai and Sichuan. Fell off it several times in icy road conditions but the crash bar and low speed saved me from any injury. With the rough roads the average speed was around 20 kph. Never got the bike above 60 kph; wind chill was ferocious. Bike was a 175cc Hymot bought brand new for $617.00. Accessories extra. The monastery is at Domthok, 60 klm south east of Yushu (Jeigu). They were celebrating Losar, the Tibetan New Year.
