I'm excited to start a new series all about 3D printing. I chose the Monoprice Maker Select V2 model 13860 as my first 3D printer. This is an extremely affordable printer to a beginner looking to start making their own creations.
Video note: The printer did come with some about 3 feet or "sample" PLA filament that was orange. That's why the model ended up that color.
I am purely a beginner my self but I'm going to diving head first into using this printer as I have a lot of ideas in store, but there will be some growing pains along the way. Hopefully me making mistakes will help you avoid them.
So far I've had a great experience messing around with the Maker Select. Other than some shipping damage I've very happy with this printer.
PROS:
Large printing area 200 x 200 x 180mm or roughly 8 inches square
Affordable at only $330
Supports 1.75mm PLA, ABS, and exotic hybrid filaments
Rebranded Prusa i3 which provides a large community to lean on
Mostly pre assembled, fully operational in just a few steps
Easy to follow manual instructions
Variable location for spool holder.
CONS:
There is some assembly required and calibrating the extruder with the base plate takes some patients to get just right.
Separate power supply and printer area makes it hard to move around.
My control screen was ruined :(
