A psychiatric interview involves questions that rule out:
F0 (organic): symptoms of organic causes related to the chief complaint
F1 (drug): history of drug use
F2 (psychotic): psychotic symptoms of hallucinations, delusions, depersonalization, derealization
F3 (mood): depressed mood, hypomanic, manic, irritable
F4 (neurotic, stress, somatoform): anxiety or panic symptoms, symptoms of acute or chronic stress, dissociative symptoms, somatization
F5 (eating, sleep, sexual, and puerperal disorders): eating/vomiting complaints, unexplained sleep difficulties, sexual complaints, and the relationship of the chief complaint to pregnancy/childbirth.
Triggers are also asked. Afterward, questions are asked about the RPD and family history. The mental status examination analyzes attention, appearance, demeanor, psychomotor skills, speech, mood, thought processes, thought content, perception, insight, and reasoning.
