Yesterday I stumbled across a new app (motion cam) for Android smartphones. As i was always pretty disappointed in video recording apps for phones, I wasn't expecting much from this either, but decided to give it a shot.
The results were shocking to me! The application (currently in beta) enables cinema DNG Raw recording, and delivers video quality that truly rivals cinema cameras! This Video is a selection of the first test footage i shot with the app. Especially the dynamic range i was able to recover from the shadows is unbelieveable to me.
However this really is more of a "proof of concept" at the moment, as the recording process is cumbersome and requires a ton of post processing to really get optimal results. Also the whole thing doesn't run too reliably at the moment, and as far as I can see, there is no way to record audio.
Overall I'd say the App is not yet ready for practical use, but it gives a glimpse of where things are headed.
Thank you so much for your awesome work Mirsad Makalic! (developer). Please keep pushing the edge of what can be done on a Phone :)

If you'd like to see a video on my postproduction workflow, comparison with a red komodo / blackmagic URSA, or have any other question about the app, let me know in the comments :)
