Masha Traub's story "Ivan and Marya" is a tale of complex family relationships, where the past and present are intertwined.
The plot centers on Katya, who, years later, remembers her mother, Maria, and her ex-husband, Ivan. Her mother was attached to him her entire life, putting his interests above her own children and her own well-being. She forgot about herself, her daughter, and her grandson, remembering only her husband. And what did her daughter get? This is what we learn from listening to the story.
