SP-404 MK2 Boom Bap Sample Flip | BEAT MAKING SESSION No. 25
Making a boom bap beat on the Roland SP-404MKII flipping a jazz guitar sample.

In the Pattern Sequencer I laid down a 2 bar pattern then in Pattern Edit I Duplicated it so it became 4 bars. I used the same drum part of all the patterns. When I performed the beat I had chained all the patterns together to play them.
Bus FX: All of the samples were assigned to Bus 1 except for the Drums which were Bus 2.
I set Buses 1 & 2 to "parallel" (opposed to "serial"), this means I can mess with effects on the Bus 1 stuff while the Drums on Bus 2 remain solid AND both are still going to buses 3/4.
I went for a "less is more" approach with buses 3/4 - Cassette Sim [w/ everything set to 0 except Wow Flutt still dirtiest it up and adds tape damage type artifacts] and Compressor [w/ a bunch of sustain, fast-ish attack and 0 ratio I found beefs it up slightly without squashing my mix, it just didn't feel like that sort of beat...]
