In 1986, construction was completed on an impressive feat of engineering and science called MFTF-B, the "Mirror Fusion Test Facility-B." It was a fusion reactor created by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The day after its inauguration, it was shut down and never started up. What happened? Why didn't it start up?
