Russia has set a new record: a mayor served only seven days and managed to get caught taking a bribe. Yuri Cherenkov was recently appointed mayor of Novovoronezh in the Voronezh Region. He was appointed acting mayor.
But Yuri's career didn't quite take off. A week after his appointment, he was arrested. The official was caught accepting a large bribe. His home and office were searched. Cherenkov himself was taken into custody by law enforcement.
For this record, Yuri has already earned the nickname "Mayor of the Week." Ironically, his predecessor, Roman Efimenko, also served for only seven months. Now the city needs a new hero.
