IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS).
The Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) is a technical society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) with a mission to advance science and technology in geoscience and remote sensing. GRSS is a community of researchers and practitioners collaborating and designing tools to understand our interaction with Earth’s ecosystems, to monitor its environments, oceans and ice caps, and to characterize potential risks.
GRSS supports a network of collaborations at a global level, and includes members from a wide variety of scientific and engineering backgrounds, supporting scientific investigations through the design and development of hardware and data processing techniques, requiring them to be familiar with geosciences such as geophysics, geology, hydrology, meteorology and more.
GRSS has established a number of Technical Committees to actively promote discussion and advances in all areas of technical interest. At the same time GRSS delivers state of the art educational products to GRSS members as well as young professionals, students and high schoolers.
GRSS has more than 4200 members in 94 countries. It currently has 79 chapters all over the world, including 16 student chapters. GRSS is supported by volunteers who help develop and spread the goals of professionals and soon-to-be professionals worldwide, with young professional ambassadors as well as social media ambassadors.
GRSS is not just focused on academia, but also industry. The Industry Relations team is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the relationship between GRSS and worldwide corporations involved in geoscience and remote sensing activities, and for the establishment of technical and business relations. Activities include meet-ups, webinars, tutorials, workshops and panels.
GRSS aims to be the leading society in science, engineering, applications, and education for the remote sensing and geospatial information community.
