A few months ago, we published a video criticizing the GeForce Now Gameplus service. To understand how things have changed since that video, in today's video, we reviewed the GeForce Now Ultimate package and examined the extent to which the issues we experienced with the Performance package have been resolved.
The Ultimate package promises a 120Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution and a GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. Initially, after reviewing these promises, our tests showed that the promised graphics card, resolution, and Hz values can be achieved without any problems. To reach the other promise of up to 240Hz, you need to enable Racing mode, which allows you to reach a 240Hz refresh rate at 1080p resolution.
The quality is excellent in 4K 120Hz mode, and playing large games smoothly at high settings is quite enjoyable. Our point of criticism here is latency. Racing mode addresses this somewhat, but you still don't get the same responsive experience as you would on your home computer. So, frankly, this service isn't very desirable for competitive gaming at the moment.
Another notable issue is bottlenecking. While things aren't bad at 2K resolution with the Higher package, when you switch to 1080P resolution, there's a serious processor-related bottleneck. This is why there's generally no FPS difference between 2K and 1080P. This is due to the processor used, likely because they use server processors, so bottlenecking occurs at lower resolutions. However, this package is already entitled to 2K and 4K resolutions.
Looking at the latest status of the Performance package, we see that they've resolved the GTX 1060 graphics card compatibility issue we mentioned in the previous video. We've been receiving RTX 2080 graphics cards repeatedly, and it's a good move that they've taken our criticisms seriously and fixed this. However, due to the HDD and NAS systems still used in these systems, games tend to load slowly. Additionally, some games can experience issues like texture failure and freezing, even if only slightly. Our general criticism of the system is the pricing; frankly, we believe these prices need to be revised.
So, do you use the GeForce Now Gameplus service? If so, be sure to share your experiences by commenting on the video.
