Step 1
Open your workbook. To do this, click the "File" menu and select "Open." Choose your workbook's file name and then click the "Open" button.
Step 2
Highlight the cell to which you want to apply conditional formatting. On your ribbon toolbar, click "Conditional Formatting" and then select "New Rule." This will open the "New Formatting Rule" window.
Step 3
Click "Use a formula to determine which cells to edit."
Step 4
Enter your formula under "Format values where this formula is true." For example, if you want your highlighted cell to have yellow text on a red background when "A1" contains the word "OK," use the following formula: =A1="OK."
Step 5
Click the "Format" button and adjust the formatting according to your needs. For the example above, go to the "Fill" tab and select a red hue from the palette. To adjust the text color, go to the "Font" tab, click the drop-down menu under "Color," and select a yellow hue from the palette. You can also add border styles, adjust the font, or change the number format in this window.
Step 6
Click "OK" after you've set your preferred format. Click "OK" again in the "New Formatting Rule" window to save your changes. #LearnExcel
