We've just started fostering kittens with the Humane Society. These are five kittens that we picked up yesterday (the HS will give you the number you can handle.) They give you kittens that are underweight or have mild problems such as a cold, and you take care of them for 2 weeks or more and then bring them back. Every kitten that gets fostered has a great chance at being adopted. When the humane society is at capacity, these kittens tend to just be euthanized if there is no one to foster them. It's also like a kitten exchange program... great for anyone who ever complained that kittens eventually turn into cats! Although my adult cat is the greatest (but he isn't as pleased as I am about the HS kitten foster program.) Call your local humane society and inquire if you'd like to get involved! I know our Humane Society doesn't have nearly enough volunteers for fostering and that programs everywhere are looking for help.
