Engine oil test with Start-Stop at 100°C Elf Evolution Full Tech FE 5W30
What does the test show?
The friction test is to show the resistance of the oil film to tearing (oil film strength).
Metal parts in the engine during operation (friction e.g. pistons) can lead to scratches and nicks. The stronger the oil film is, the better it should protect the engine against scratches.
Each sample subjected to this test will definitely have some scratches (dents). By measuring the sample, we can check the depth of the gouge.

How does the test work?
A new sample is subjected to 3x metal to metal friction under 1kg load for 1 minute with 30 seconds interval. The diameter of the sample is then measured at its lowest point. The lower the result, the better.
