GC EverX Posterior: Clinical case with fibre reinforced composite

In this clinical case, Javier Tapia Guadix and Stephane Browet, specialists in aesthetic dentistry, demonstrate how to use a fibre-reinforced composite to restore an extensive cavity in a posterior tooth.

The working field is isolated with a rubber dam and the old composite restoration is removed. A sectional matrix system is placed to ensure a good contact point with the neighbouring tooth.

After selective enamel etching, the adhesive is applied and cured. A thin layer of G-ænial Universal Flo is applied and cured at the gingival margin of the proximal box to ensure a tight marginal adaptation in the most crucial area. The entire proximal wall is built up with G-ænial Posterior, since the fibre-reinforced composite everX Posterior should be covered at all sides because of its fibre content leading to a higher surface roughness .

Then, the fibre-reinforced composite everX Posterior is applied in bulk up to 4 mm, leaving sufficient space for occlusal coverage by a conventional composite. G-ænial Posterior has a firm consistency that can be easily controlled and contoured for shaping the anatomy of the occlusal surface.

For excellent aesthetics, OPTIGLAZE color is used to further characterise the restoration. The application of Gradia Air Barrier before the final polymerisation prevents the sticky oxygen inhibition layer from forming at the surface, which reduces the time needed for the final finishing and polishing steps. These final steps are executed with tips, cups and disks to obtain the desired high gloss.

With everX Posterior as dentin replacement and G-ænial Posterior as enamel replacement, a biomimetic restoration of teeth with direct composites has become reality.
