Countdown timers can serve all kinds of purposes. I use one to display special events, such as playing for Extra Life. Today, I'll show you how to add a countdown timer widget to WordPress.

In this video, I'll go over using one of the simplest countdown timer plugins in WordPress: Countdown Timer Ultimate. Although it's a free plugin, you can upgrade it by purchasing the premium version of the tool. However, the free version works exceptionally well for those who just need a quick and easy countdown widget for WordPress.
The countdown timer widget comes with a few customizable settings, complete with color control so you can match the timestamps to your theme's overall design.
Countdown Timer Ultimate uses shortcodes. This means you can place the timer almost anywhere on your website such as pages, posts, sidebar text widgets, and most custom content types. You can even use it in certain plugins for WooCommerce if you plan on showing a discount or a certain time-sensitive sale.
For example, what if you want to show that you're launching a sale on Black Friday? Using a countdown timer lets people know that time is ticking.
This countdown plugin is probably one of the easiest to use that I've come across. But, if you don't like it, there are plenty of others in the WordPress repository that works well. You just need to find one that fits your needs and design aesthetic.
