wait a minute = Used when you have just noticed or remembered something or had a sudden idea.
would sooner = would rather; often used to show one's disgust or displeasure with a potential event, outcome, or course of action.
What's the matter (with someone or something)? = What is the problem with (someone or something)?
a while back = At some point in the past.
Jiminy crickets - an old fashioned expression of surprise or astonishment.
clinking, clanking, or clattering = sharp, hard sounds made by metal; metallic sounds.
caliginous = dark, misty, and gloomy.
what'd = what did
effrontery = audacity; having the effrontery of doing something is like being too bold or brave and not modest enough to not do it.
meek = humbly patient or quiet in nature.
step forward = To move forward one step or several steps.
dare to do something = to be courageous enough to do something.
bovine = like a cow, ox, or buffalo.
whippersnapper = a person who is unimportant but bold or brave.
beneficent = generous and good; characterized by performing acts of kindness or charity.
fodder = something fed to domestic animals
Your Honor = used when talking to a judge.
grant a request = do what someone has formally requested or asked you to do.
have every intention of (doing something) = To plan or want to (do something); intend to (do something).
*When you want to emphasize or stress that you intend to do something, you will say that you 'have every intention of' doing it.
broomstick = In children's stories, a witch has a broom or broom stick she uses to fly in the air.
