Massimo Banzi shows us the new UNO R4, which boasts a new USB-C connector (replacing the earlier USB-B port), which can handle 6 to 24 volts of input for higher-power projects. Both of the new Arduino UNO R4 boards (WiFi and Minima) include a high-powered, 32-bit Renesas RA4M1 processor. The new boards, featuring this Arm Cortex-M4, have been benchmarked at 16-200x faster than previous Unos – depending on the application.
The stripped-down Minima is essentially a beefed-up R3 with a lower price point, while the WiFi version features a host of new features.
Both boards include:
CAN bus, for communicating with vehicles and other tech
12-bit DAC and op-amp, for audio and signal generation
And the WiFi also includes:
ESP32-S2 for WiFi and Bluetooth
12x8 red LED array for displaying information and graphics
Plus, you can now connect a daisy-chain of SparkFun’s Qwiic modules, or other compatible I2C peripherals (including Adafruit’s Stemma QT).
