Città della Pieve: A suggestive medieval town in Perugia, situated on a hill in the shape of a plateau between the rivers Nestore and Chiani. It is protected by the civic tower and surrounded by red walls erected at the beginning of the 12th century, in order to protect the village from the enemies. This area is characterised by numerous civil and religious buildings. This place is full of nature and has lots of interesting and fun facts to tell about it: Castel della Pieve is one of the Italian saffron cities, these flowers are produced since 13th century in this area, as evidenced by the Statue of Perugia dated 1279. The plant was primarily used to dye fabrics, since castle della Pieve was an important centre of textile production. Città della Pieve boasts an historical and cultural heritage dating from Etruscans period to the Renaissance; there are evidences of these cultures in the Etruscan tomb, of more than 2000 years, that was found in 2015. Several valuable religious buildings of this city are the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi, the artworks of the Cathedral of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, and the frescoed rooms of the charming Palazzo della Corgna, which plunge the visitor in one of the most significant artistic period of the Renaissance.
