Correction about compression: The higher the ratio, the louder you have to be to raise the volume by 1 dB above the threshold. So using -18 db as the threshold like in the video: 4:1 would mean input would have to be at -14 input to get -17 output. With 10:1 I would have to get up to -8dB to get -17db
I forgot to add: after setting your stuff up do a recording to see how everything sounds! Record yourself being quiet, raising your voice, aggressively typing on your keyboard, etc.
