We get asked a lot about how to help players who can't catch the ball properly. We have the perfect solution!
The hardest part for younger players is getting them to understand the proper glove placement when catching the ball. The Wind Shield Wiper Drill is the best way to teach your players how to first catch it properly, and also gain the confidence that they won't get hit with the ball in the face.
Coaches! Don't send your kids down for their throwing program without first knowing who can catch and who can't. Always break your players up by ability level and teach the basics. Use small groups in safe environments. Once a player gets hit with the ball it will be difficult for them to come back and trust their ability later on. Start out using smush balls or tennis balls with the bare hand. From there, your players will have the confidence to catch a throw from their teammates.
