Using Windows 7 on "unsupported" hardware...
Microsoft says you need at least 2 gigabytes to install Windows 7 on a computer. So let's install it on 512 megabytes, or actually 477 usable megabytes.
For context if needed:
Microsoft states that Windows 7 requires at least 1 GHz, 2 GB (or 1 GB for 32-bit copies) of memory, and around 16-20 GB of hard drive space. According to BetaWiki, the original release of Windows 7 (and Service Pack 1) can actually been installed on as low as 256 megabytes, and on a processor as old as the original Intel Pentium (released in 1993), as the installer does not check for a required processor generation. However, an update in 2018 did mandate SSE2 support, thus bumping up the CPU requirement up to the Pentium 4 (released in 2000)
The computer used in this video is a circa 2013/2014 "Spartan MS-163K", a rebadged version of the MSI PR-601 notebook computer (a model that dates back to 2008, where back then it came with Windows Vista Business, which came with either 512 MB or 1 GB, the former proving that this same video scenario can occur with Windows Vista). It has a processor and hard drive that fit within Microsoft's specified system requirements, however the memory "requirement" is not met.
There you go, the honestly unnecessary explanation I feel is required for me to give so everyone is happy. Oh, and on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, perhaps I should try this same concept, but with hardware "too new" to run Windows 7...
