In this video, I explore whether Adobe Illustrator can be used for serious 3D design and modeling work. As an experienced Illustrator user, I often get asked if Illustrator can be used beyond 2D vector graphics and flat illustrations. The answer is yes! With some creativity and know-how, Illustrator can absolutely be utilized for building 3D assets.
In the video, I walk through my entire process from start to finish. I start by building a simple 3D model right in Adobe Illustrator using isometric drawing tools and shapes. Once I have my 3D model created, I then export it to Adobe Dimension where I can turn my Illustrator model into a fully 3D object with realistic materials, lighting and shading applied. This instantly turns my Illustrator model into something that looks like a real 3D object!
To take things even further, I then export my Dimension model into Photoshop where I create a full scene using my 3D model. This shows how you can use Illustrator-made 3Ds as part of beautiful scenes and compositions.
So in summary, don't underestimate Illustrator's 3D potential! With the power of Adobe's suite, you really can go from vector to rendered 3D using primarily Illustrator. Watch the full video for my step-by-step tutorial!
