The True Shape of Earth
The Earth isn’t a perfect sphere — it’s slightly flattened at the poles and bulging at the equator. This shape is called an oblate spheroid. The reason for this distortion is Earth’s rotation, which causes the planet to “stretch” around the middle. From space, it may look perfectly round, but in reality, our planet is a little squished — like a ball gently pressed from the top and bottom.
