Metadata is the content of catalogs, directories, registers, etc., containing information about the composition of data, content, status, origin, location, quality, formats and forms of presentation, conditions of access, acquisition and use, copyright, property and related their data rights, etc.
Currently, there are a large number of metadata systems designed to describe various classes of information objects. The use of metadata systems (data schemas) is not yet sufficiently formalized. Information systems focused on the same classes of information objects use different, often, original metadata systems and meta description formats, as well as different approaches to solving applied problems.
