"This Was My Life: Nick Menza's Metal Memories with Megadeth and Beyond" is a feature-length documentary that delves into the life and legacy of Nick Menza. The renowned legendary drummer best Known for his explosive, energetic and animated drumming style with the thrash metal band Megadeth.
Serving as their drummer from 1989 to 1998. He contributed to several of the band's most acclaimed albums including Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings. Menza's legacy as a talented and influential drummer continues to be celebrated by fans and musicians alike.
Distributed by BayView Entertainment and Directed by Holly Grayson, and narrated by David Ellefson of Ellefson Films alongside the Menza family, and Nick's manager Robert Bolger also lended their talents in the role of Producer. The film offers an intimate look at Menza's personal and professional journey, featuring rare footage and interviews with family, friends, and fellow musicians.

The red carpet premiere for "This Was My Life," is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Laemmle Royal theater in Los Angeles, California. The event will feature a Q&A session with director Holly Grayson and former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson.

Born in Munich, Germany, where his father, jazz musician Don Menza, had been stationed with the U.S. Army. Nick Menza began playing drums at the age of two, at which age he performed at his first public concert when during the intermission, someone sat him down on Jack DeJohnette's drum kit and he proceeded to play.
Menza's influences stem from being nurtured around the tutelage of such notables as Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Nick Ceroli, Jeff Porcaro, and Louie Bellson, Neil Peart, John Bohm, Tommy Aldridge and Chris Adler.
Tragically, Menza died on May 21, 2016, at 51, collapsing from heart failure, behind his drum kit during during a live performance with his band OHM at The Baked Potato jazz club in Los Angeles.
His death stunned the metal community, with tributes highlighting his talent and warm personality. A father of two, he’d spent his final weeks glowing with pride over time with his sons.
