Procedures for Combined Prayers
Combined prayers are two obligatory prayers performed at one of the obligatory prayer times. So, what are the procedures for combining prayers? The rules for combining prayers include that the Dhuhr prayer may only be combined with the Asr prayer, and the Maghrib prayer may only be combined with the Isha prayer, and there is no combination for the Fajr prayer. The procedures for combining the Dhuhr and Asr prayers may be performed at either time, as well as the procedures for combining the Takhir prayers, Maghrib and Isha. The essential requirement is to have the intention to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the intention to combine the Maghrib and Isha prayers.
The provisions for combining prayers only apply in certain circumstances, including traveling, rain, illness, and urgent needs that prevent performing the obligatory prayers on time. In addition, there are shortened plural prayers, where the procedure for shortening the number of rak'ahs is performed simultaneously while reducing the number of rak'ahs to two rak'ahs compared to the four obligatory prayers.
