The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a role-playing video game, the fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls series.
The game was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks and Take-Two Interactive's subsidiary, 2K Games. Oblivion was released on March 20, 2006.

Immediately after its release, TES IV: Oblivion became a bestseller in the entertainment industry: 1.7 million copies of the role-playing game were sold in the first two weeks of release, and by January 18, 2007, that number had already reached 3 million. TES IV: Oblivion received widespread positive reviews in the press; its PC version holds a 94% Metacritic score, calculated based on fifty-four reviews from reputable specialist publications.

The game's story centers on the protagonist's confrontation with a cult worshiping the Daedric Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon, who plans to open a portal to the world of Tamriel in order to conquer the empire. As with its predecessors, the world of Oblivion is completely open for exploration, allowing the player to travel anywhere they wish, ignoring the main storyline.

Development of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion began in 2002, immediately after the release of Morrowind. The game was developed using the improved Havok physics engine, HDR lighting effects, various generator programs to speed up performance, and the Radiant AI, which allows for more varied and complex NPC behavior. The game was released with full voiceover for all dialogue by professional actors and a musical score by composer Jeremy Soule, who also wrote the soundtrack for Morrowind.
