Most miniature figure and scale model Patreons now provide pre-supported STL’s as Lychee Slicer scenes for download, identified by the .LYS file extension. Every day, more professionals and hobbyists alike are switching to Lychee Slicer for the versatile tools and elegant workflow.
In this video, you will see the remarkable customization available to you when your supported models can be edited in Lychee Slicer. We’ll show you how to adjust the model’s scale while keeping the existing supports.
🔰 Support scaling summary:
· Use the Scale function in the Layout section of Lychee Slicer. Keep in mind that scaling the model either too big or too small may be problematic for the pre-supports. The original supports are designed for a specific scale and increasing or decreasing the scale too far can make these supports less effective.
· The Recalculate Support (or Alt+R shortcut) is available after selecting one or multiple supports. You can access it in the Support menu or by using right-click on top of the selected supports.
· After rescaling and updating the model’s supports, always check that you don't have supports that overlap the model. It can happen with longer supports as shown in the video, if the software can't find a good solution without affecting the existing settings.
· If you increase a model's scale, don't forget to edit your support settings by increasing the tip size, the global thickness of thin supports, and ultimately adding some additional supports. · Printing a larger scale 3D model causes more peeling forces than the smaller supports were designed to withstand, and if you don't have enough supports and/or too small of a tip size, the supports may fail from the additional strain.
