Extruded Text Test
Now this doesnt look like much compared to other stuff ive done but to me this is jaw dropping. This is extruded text created ENTIRELY in AE, before youd have to extrude 3d objects from within a different program like Cinema4D, Blender or 3DSmax but now thanks to Andrew Kramers new plugin hes revolutionised the industry.
If your into this sort of stuff like i am just compare the difference. A 10 second extruded text comp takes anywhere between 1hr to 4hrs depending on how much different components youve got in the scene to render out in Cinema4D and then you have to import it into AE. The way people in AE fake a 3d text look is by creating text and then multiplying the layers again and again to create a 3d look, these layers add hours to rendering times, other simpler methods like duplicating a layer and using it like a dropshadow but with poorer results.
This took me probably 15mins in whole to extrude, add texture, a glow, a flare, motion blur and i couldve added a venetian blind for a more digital look even. All of those effects including the extruded 3d object completely rendered in 10mins ! This is sheer power, anyone whos familiar with Cinema4D knows just how much of a bitch it can be with rendering times. Yeah ive had those long 13hr sessions and i aint looking back
