Tucked away in the basement, down a flight of stairs, is the vintage shop "Marvin's."
Established in 1991, it's a renowned store that's an essential part of Japan's vintage scene.
The store is filled to the brim with an overwhelming amount of secondhand clothing.
"I've always loved cool things," says owner Hanzawa.
His quest for coolness led him to discover "vintage items" and "American goods."
Every item on display in the store resonates with Hanzawa's sensibilities.
Marvin's appeal also lies in its wide range of selection.
While stocking a large number of super vintage pieces priced in the millions of yen range,
there is also a wide selection of items available for just a few thousand yen.
The store is open to vintage lovers of all stripes.
And what Hanzawa values most is condition. Generally, they don't stock anything with holes or other damage,
and only items that can be worn properly are on display.
The store's atmosphere is created by its attitude of treating vintage items not as works of art, but simply as clothing to be worn.
The hangers are packed tightly with used clothing.
Rubbing through the clothes and looking at each piece is an adventure,
and of course, you might find an unexpected bargain.
You'll find yourself spending hours there, like on a treasure hunt.
