The Arawak People: First N.A. Indigenous People To Encounter Columbus
This video is for the ""The Arawak People".., their history, culture, affiliations.. and about their first meetings with Columbus, in 1492. There is also am associated, two-video series in here for "The Taino People". Both of these Peoples were "the first to encounter the "colonists".
-------------------------------------------------
The Arawak People are a group of Indigenous Peoples of South America and of the Caribbean.
Specifically..the term "Arawak" has been applied at various times to the Lokono People of South America and the Taíno People, who historically lived in the Greater Antilles and northern Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean.
The term Arawak originally was applied by Europeans, specifically to the South American group who self-identified as: Arawak, Arhuaco.. or, Lokono.
As previously mentioned, The Arawak & Taíno Peoples were among the first Indigenous Peoples to encounter Spanish Conquistadors, when Christopher Columbus visited multiple islands and Chiefdoms, on his first voyage, in 1492.
Relationships, between the Spaniards.. and the Taino & Arawak Peoples.. would ultimately take a very saddening turn.
