This is one of the first Australian slang terms foreigners learn and it's an important one because Aussies are obsessed with barbies. People have barbies at the beach, at home on the deck, out when camping, and in the park. We have barbies just about everywhere.
The Australian slang term "Barbie" can be used two ways:
1. A rack or appliance used for the preparation of food at a barbecue.
2. A meal or gathering at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire or on a special appliance.
