How to Control a Horse: Speed Control, Part Two: Pick a Speed, Stay at That Speed
(Note: To learn how to stop a horse from taking off - and for the prep you'll need for this second part, see Speed Control, Part 1: • How to Make a Horse Go Faster, Slower or S... .)
Taught here: How to make a horse go faster, how to make a horse speed up, to broaden the range of speeds in which your horse will travel, to keep your horse going at a particular speed within any gait, walk, trot or lope.
In this second part we learn and practice an exercise that not only broadens the range of speeds in which your horse will move (within any particular gait) - but also teaches your horse to stay at that speed.

This is an especially good thing to bear in mind when it comes to speed control. It's not good enough that your horse speeds up or slows down in the arena under controlled circumstances, this is control you need to diligently build into your horse so that in high-stress moments, you've got something to call upon...."
