Haki Oğuz, returning with his tractor in the rural area of Tepecik Village in the Tut district of Adıyaman, encountered a striped hyena, which is listed as an endangered and protected animal species.
Frightened by the hyena, Hakkı Oğuz honked his tractor horn to scare it away. Ignoring the sound of the tractor and the horn, the striped hyena began to slowly advance in front of the moving tractor. The hyena, acting as an escort for the tractor driver, was captured on camera by the driver on his mobile phone. Hakkı Oğuz, happy to have the hyena accompany him on the road, said, “I used to encounter this hyena from time to time, but this was the first time it had accompanied me. At first, I was afraid it would attack, so I made some noises, but it ignored me. It followed me along the road, ahead of my tractor. I was both surprised and happy to see this.”
The hyena was later spotted by teams from the Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch and the gendarmerie who were conducting inspections in the area. The hyena, identified as sick, was captured by the teams and placed in a cage. The endangered striped hyena was taken to the Şanlıurfa Wild Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for treatment. It was emphasized that the striped hyena will be released back into the wild after its treatment is completed.
