[Craig] Hi. My name is Dr. Craig Jonov. I am from the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery in Lynnwood, Washington, just north of Seattle. I've been asked a question commonly about a tummy tuck procedure. Where are the incisions located? Ideally, we like to place the incision as low as possible in relationship to where the panty line is or in the area where a woman might wear her panty or wear her pants line. Those have changed over time. Instead of a French cut in the past when the incisions were higher up on the waist, now they tend to be a little lower because of the fashion and style of clothing that women wear. We tend to keep them a little lower. The extent of where they need to be are basically based on the individual, and how much contouring we have to do to reduce the amount of fullness to achieve an ideal contour.
Those are the decisions that we make, as well as how much tissue that needs to be removed. If we're able to remove the belly button area all the way down to the lower section, we do that all in 1 area and leave the incision as low as possible. Sometimes patients don't need as much of that tissue to be removed, and instead of doing a full tummy tuck, we can do a partial or may be able to float the belly button. If the belly button appears to be a little high, it can be moved down a little bit and it minimizes the amount and [extention 00:01:26] of tissues that need to be removed, and makes the recovery a little bit easier and actually reduces some risk in doing the procedure as well.
