NASA/DLR SOFIA 'first light' flight
NASA video of the SOFIA airborne observatory preparing for its "first light" flight - its first in-flight observation mission - overnight May 25-26 from Palmdale, Calif. SOFIA is a modified 747SP equipped with a 2.7m reflecting telescope supplied by German Aerospace Center DLR. The first observations used Cornell University's FORCAST faint object infrared camera.
