"İhsan Ketin, whom Atatürk sent to his geology education, discovered the North Anatolian Fault Line in 1948.
“The right to work outdoors, in the bosom of bare nature, is not available in every profession. Geologists are people who always stay young. There is a love of friendship that a life spent together in a tent under a mountainside gives us, which connects us more than in other professions," said Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ketin.
His aim was "to pay for the education he received throughout his life with the support of the nation and the state". However, he paid no attention to the state that sent Ketin abroad to receive an excellent education and to become one of the world's leading geologists, nor to the nation that once again discovered the destructive power of the North Anatolian Fault Line with the 17 August Izmit Earthquake.
İhsan Ketin, who devoted 55 years of his life to earth science in the mountains and tents, could not find the respect he had abroad in his own country. While Ketin's articles became the subject of thesis for foreign geologists, they came to the fore in his own country only four years after his death, with the deaths of tens of thousands of people.
