This week we will continue our series on arm impulses by examining the single and double rotations that underlie the Taubman approach. This is a very interesting and helpful way to unify the movements of the fingers with the hand and forearm and to organize yourself technically at the piano. Full disclosure: although I have a fair amount of familiarity with the approach, I am NOT a Taubman teacher. However, I do use the language and tools of the Taubman approach often in my teaching, and the problem-solving toolkit it provides students with is formidable.
