The first step of how to spackle nail holes is choosing the right tools. For this project, you'll need: shrink-free spackling, a one-and-a-half-inch putty knife, a fine-grit sanding sponge and a tack cloth. First, spread a little spackling into each hole to repair nail holes in drywall. Make sure the hole is completely filled and taper any excess spackling onto the wall around the hole.
To repair larger holes, you will need: fiber tape or reinforced metal patch. Tape a small square over the hole. The next step of how to spackle nail holes is the same as for smaller holes. Use a three-inch putty knife to spread the spackling and cover the hole completely. After the spackling is dry, run the sanding sponge over the repaired hole to smooth the wall surface. The last step is removing the dust with the tack cloth and your walls are ready for painting.
