Vaudeville Villain is one of my favourite DOOM albums. It’s way too tough to pick, but I think if I had to narrow it down to two, it would be Vaudeville Villain and Operation: Doomsday. I forget where, but I once read something saying that Viktor Vaughn is the DOOM alias for hip hop junkies, and I think that sums up the album well. It’s still got a mad unique flavour, but it’s undeniably raw hip hop, and that’s for sure what makes me love it so much. I wish more Viktor acapellas were out there, but I’m mad grateful this one exists, it’s one of my favourite tracks off the album, and it’s always better when I’ve played through the whole album and then have the whole rain intro to build it up, to the first beat dropping in such a disgusting way it always gets me.
When I originally dropped this remix the sample was pitched a bit lower, and there was no switch up at the end. ( / blew-the-whole-shit-up ) I thought pitching the sample up a bit worked well with the vibe, and for the switch up I revered the loop I flipped and changed up the drums. I think going to a 16 note hi hat pattern helped make the switch up different enough that it worked, I’ve never actually done a remix of ‘Change The Beat’ where I changed the beat, so I thought it would be cool to finally do that. I spent ages trying to put other Viktor Vaughn or DOOM acapellas over the switch up, but I couldn’t find anything that worked, and I wanted to keep the outro short, which didn’t really work well with a verse. Because of that I decided to put vocals from Wild Style over the outro, the same dialogue that DOOM used for ‘The Hands Of Doom’ on Operation: Doomsday. The film is literally THE Hip Hop film, so all the dialogue just fits stupidly well over beats, it just works. This particular dialogue is mad dope to me, especially what Zoro is saying about the artist being in his own world, I think that speaks so much to how DOOM was as an artist, so I thought it was a nice outro to add onto this track.
