Trans-Siberian: crossing Irtysh River

3rd day, 15:00 (MT + 3), 2706km from Moscow. Right after crossing Irtysh River, the train stops at Omsk city. This is Western Siberia.

The Irtysh rises in China and flows almost 3000km into the Ob River. It's joined here by the Om. The 650m long bridge is build on pillars of granite from the Urals which had to be brought 1000km by river to the construction site. (Trans-Siberian handbook, Bryn Thomas)
