Welcome to our tribute to Geoffrey Thomas.
My name is Richard Godfrey.
I am joined by:
Captain Richard de Crespigny formally of Qantas and well known for his handling of the QF32 accident. Rich first learned of Geoffrey in 1995 from a book Geoffrey and his wife Christine had written celebrating Qantas' 75th anniversary.
Mark Stewart who is the Custodian of the Spirit of Douglas, a lovingly preserved DC-3, brought back to honour Donald Douglas, who inspired Geoffrey’s love of aviation and another book written by Geoffrey and Christine.
Duncan Robb from Geoffrey’s YouTube channel Daily Airline News and the MH370 Action Group. Duncan met Geoffrey virtually and built a strong friendship with him.
I have known Geoffrey for 5 years, but we only met face to face once.
That was last year, after the Paris Air Show in a small town in Germany near the border to France on Sunday 22nd June 2025. Less than a year later Geoffrey was taken from us on 3rd June 2026.
He had a successful heart operation, but a week later he had another arterial problem and opted for palliative care.
I was privileged to have been Geoffrey’s co-host on Daily Airline News the last 2 years. Geoffrey produced over 600 episodes, with over 10 million views.
