People speak very poorly in Brazil, and write even worse. Politicians and journalists, lacking vernacular hygiene, only use jargon, slang, and solecisms under the guise of modern language. But language is a people's greatest asset! To disrespect it is to disrespect one's own nationality. Confucius was asked, 2000 years ago, what he would do first if he had to govern a country. "It would obviously be to correct the language!" he replied. His interlocutors were surprised and asked why. The master's reply was as follows: "If language is not correct, what is said is not what is intended to be said. If what is said is not what is intended to be said, what should be done is not done. If what should be done is not done, morality and the arts decline. If morality and the arts decline, justice crumbles. If justice crumbles, people are left helpless and confused. Therefore, there can be no arbitrariness in what is said. That is what matters above all."
