Where Would Marvel's Fictional Countries ACTUALLY Be Located?
Where are Marvel’s fictional countries located? When comic writers want to play off a certain part of the world but don’t want to tap into the real-world politics apart of a given nation, they often use one of their many fake countries as stand-ins to use that part of the world and then mold it to be whatever the writer is trying to get across.
Wakanda, for instance, has been in both West Africa – between Niger and Nigeria – but also near the real-world Lake Turkana putting it between Ethiopia, Kenya, and nearby its namesake Uganda. The mutant nation of Genosha is supposedly between Madagascar and the Seychelles, but their successor state of Krakoa is close to its real-world namesake of Samoa.
Madripoor is in Southeast Asia, supposedly across the bay from its namesake, Singapore. And in Eastern Europe is Sokovia as a nod to Slovakia, Transia is Transnistria, Symkeria is North Macedonia, and Latveria is Latvia – despite Latveria’s namesake being in the Baltics.
