See how much more area can be covered faster this way rather than by creating single 360 Photos. Current reported maximum recording speed is about 31 Mph. Google maps uses Theta V video and from that input, they create 360 pictures with geo coordinates. Next, it is automatically mapped to Streetview and later each photo is connected in Streetview. The individual dots get combined to create a continuous path like the Streetview car does.

This video is a recap of what I have learned by reading the threads on the Streetview trusted photographer section on the Local Guides Connect community. The information is available to members only. The information I learned in the forum plus using the camera to greate Streetview mapping. It is not all that hard to do but the help information is not really developed yet. The ability to get started and produce an end result without a lot of false starts.
The key thing to remember is the phone is the place that generates the GPS coordinates. So if the two are not connected the video does not get the coordinates embedded in the video. Without this, the Google Streetview App will not allow you to upload the Video. It shows an error message and then you have to delete the video and go back and reshoot it. The worst thing is if you have a long distance from the shooting location to were you are going to process the video and upload it will take a lot of time and travel to redo it. The error message about too few GPS coordinates only comes up when you are at the last stage of publishing.
I had not been a great fan of 360 photos but now the increased speed and distance that can be covered is HUGE. So now embracing the technology looks like a great way to get more done. The time to complete the entire cycle from shooting to publishing and back ready to shot does take time. Start with a charged Theta V. It can take 2 hours if out. Shooting time about 25 minutes. Then recharge the camera prior to transferring the video to the phone. The battery runs out just about when the Theta V storage is full. Also helps wireless work well. Transfering the video to the phone can take a lot of time if it is full and again run down the battery on the Theta as files are moved over to the phone. Then you need to recharge the Theta V while the video is being posted to Google Maps street view so you will be ready to shoot again.
The second reason to explore some of the features is another parallel development. Google is looking for people to also test VR tools. It does not take a real stretch to see the parallel between more Streetview images, Google Earth and other developments.
