In part 2 of Gaining Your Guinea Pig’s Trust, we’ll show you how to start petting your furry friends once they’re comfortable enough around you.

It’s best to start off gentle and move slowly, using just a finger or two, and making sure they see you approaching them. Try not to pet them as they sleep at first, because prey animals don’t usually take well to surprises. The best spot to start is on their head, right above the eyes. Try avoiding the feet, belly, and back until you’re able to pet their head comfortably. Once you’re able to pet them, try moving on to cuddles. Try cuddling for a short period at first until they get comfortable being that close to you. Remember to be patient and enjoy the journey of bonding with your piggies.
