VirtIO GPU and Passthrough GPU Support for Xen - Ray Huang, AMD

The 3D applications are running based on open graphic libraries such as OpenGL and Vulkan. Mesa is the open source Linux implementation of graphic libraries for GPU hardware acceleration on multiple platforms. And different GPU hardware have different OpenGL/Vulkan drivers in Mesa such as Virgl(OpenGL) and Venus(Vulkan) for VirtIO GPU. However, current Xen only supports Virgl and passthrough GPU on PV dom0 for x86 platform, meanwhile, amdgpu required IOMMU instead of xen-swiotlb (Xen PV) in dom0. So we introduce a more complete graphic virtualization support on Xen including Venus, Zink + Venus, and Passthrough GPU with PVH dom0. This proposal covers multiple components including Xen, QEMU, kernel, Mesa, and Virglrenderer. In this session, Ray will give the introduction for this GPU virtualization solution including the design, implementation, existing issue discussion, and future work.
